10/10: Sean Baker

The director of Starlet, Tangerine, and the upcoming The Florida Project shares his ten favorite films from the last ten years.

– in alphabetical order –

1. 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days (Cristian Mungiu, 2007), master class in pacing.

2. Act of Killing (Joshua Oppenheimer, 2012), 5 years later and I’m still processing it. Not sure I ever will completely.

3. Import Export (Ulrich Seidl, 2007), every single shot has been seared on to my pre-frontal cortex.

4. Involuntary (Ruben Östlund, 2008), cringe inducing perfection.

5. Li’l Quinquin (Bruno Dumont, 2014), I smiled for a whole 206 minutes.

6. The Other Side (Roberto Minervini, 2016), I want every US citizen to see this film.

7. Paradise: Faith (Ulrich Seidl, 2012), one of the best comedies ever made.

8. Poetry (Lee Chang- dong, 2010), poetry.

9. Samsara (Ron Fricke, 2011), eye candy from heaven.

10. Secret Sunshine (Lee Chang-dong, 2007), a cathartic experience for me.
